Cleansing address databases

Address databases are often badly formatted with duplicate addresses, different spellings: sometimes because of bad data entry, and sometimes because customers are deliberately entering their address incorrectly to take advantage of a new customer offer.

At spotless we provide automatic address cleansing based on comparing addresses to known address fields. This can either be a postcode database covering an entire country or for markets without strong postcodes using generated lists of cities and towns.

If you already have access to a postcode database you can use it to create your own private reference run to validate addresses or rely on other user generated rules on our platform.

More popular rules include:

  • UK Cities & Towns Name Check Rule - provides easy address database cleansing, particularly if you want to visualise cities and clusters according to geographies
  • India Cities Name Check Rule - India is a slightly more challenging market for address databases and this rule is maintained actively to provide a complete list of all cities
  • All Countries Name Check Rule - provides a list of all the countries in the world for checking international address lists
